Presented by Dr. Jonathan Boisvert is the Team Leader at NRC’s Vision and Cobotics Research Facility.
Humans and robots have complementary strengths. It is therefore natural to try to establish cooperation between them to accomplish tasks that neither could do well in isolation. This is the deceptively simple idea behind the field of cobotics.
In this webinar, we will quickly introduce key concepts from this field and how they can be translated in the context of industrial applications. In a vendor-neutral way, we will describe current state-of-the-art, future opportunities, as well as practical challenges that lie in between. We will focus primarily on the imaging and cyber-physical challenges that come from integrating cobots to a fabrication process. Furthermore, to make things more practical (and more interesting), we will describe those challenges in the context of an ongoing project that focuses on cobot-assisted finishing of metallic components.
