Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (“NGen”) is the industry-led not-for-profit organization that leads the Canadian government’s ambitious investment in the Advanced Manufacturing Supercluster, matching federal funds and private investments to industry-led projects.

We promote technology adoption, skills improvements and greater collaboration between technology and manufacturing to help Canadian companies of all sizes navigate the global shift to advanced manufacturing. We use data to link companies, researchers, and investors so they can work together to invent new products or processes. NGen is a proud member of a national network of five Canadian, industry-led innovation superclusters.

By 2023, the federal government has committed to investing up to $950 million in its five superclusters to drive major economic, social, and industrial benefits for the country. The Government allocated an additional $750 million to the Supercluster program in its 2022 budget.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver in partnership with other members of the NGen team, an organization that can demonstrate value to its Stakeholders and Partners and creates beneficial Economic impact within
  • Lead on supporting industry in developing strong project proposals, IP strategies, commercialization strategies, project plans, and financial projects identifying technology trends and helping to align them across projects. Work to identify companies for projects to partner with.
  • Demonstrate competence in working with and advising project teams with regard to other Government organizations and funding
  • Develop strong and complimentary working relationships with a wide range of external organizations that allow for mutually beneficial initiatives and programs to be
  • Provide expert guidance to project applicants in best practice methods for project development and grant applications. Ensure high-quality and thorough application submissions in applicable project streams.
  • Working with the NGen team, industry, and academic technology leads, to develop technical challenge programs to align funding
  • Create and implement a project reporting system permitting NGen executive staff (and other stakeholders as required) a regularly refreshed overview of the projects and the NGen in the project pipeline.
  • Supporting the Delivery Program Team in the management of change, variation, risk and opportunity, recovery and acceleration of projects within the, In particular, providing input on Technical Scope variations and budget variations.
  • Working with the projects and with the Project Finance Director in developing and approving budget forecasts and project claims.
  • Working with Innovation, Science and Economic Development, Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions CED, Investissement Quebec and other funding bodies, as appropriate, to ensure alignment of technology development facilitation throughout the full innovation
  • Work with our communications and marketing group to create and maintain external publication/display material of a technical nature that can be utilized as part of the Industry showcasing capability and to publicize NGen members' activities in order to attract further and wider participation.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Education to at least Bachelor level in a relevant Science or Engineering, Business development field.
  • Desirable recognized professional institutional
  • Strong Science, Technology, or Engineering background, working in either relevant advanced manufacturing technology companies, from the manufacturing sector or Government funding or consultancy
  • Experience in developing and delivering complex technology projects or experience of launching new products into
  • Knowledge of Technologies that could transform the manufacturing industry such as Industry 4.0, digital processes, additive manufacturing, advanced materials, cyber security, and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience working with customer development teams across a range of different organizations both in Canada and
  • Experience working with Government funding or private venture capital funding
  • Experience in new product development cycles including an understanding of TRL / MRL challenges; working with academia and partners throughout the supply
  • Recognition of future technology and market trends and the ability to relate them to the Canadian Advanced Manufacturing sectors and the opportunities this could
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, recognized public presenter, and experience in a media interaction.
  • Desirable to have a strong advanced manufacturing network and widely recognized within Industry groups as an approachable, technology-agnostic supporter.
