Project Sunflower will explore the intersection of AI and synthetic manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), specifically psychedelics that fall into the class of ergolines, tryptamines, and phenethylamines. Production of these substances has typically been small in scale and utilizes well known batch processes. Recently, psychedelic drugs to treat mental health indications such as depression and PTSD have been the subject of much investigation. We believe there is an opportunity to develop commercial scale, continuous production methods to address the future market. The project will explore novel manufacturing methods and will use in-line analytical techniques to optimize and potentially automate the manufacturing process. The intellectual property developed through this collaboration will be applied to commercial-scale manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). One major benefit of the project is a manufacturing system that is demand driven the run-time of the system will be proportional to the 'batch' size.
